ALIEN
5² took
14 months to produce (mostly on weekends) with a budget of about
$1500, 10 times the size of the budget for Probot's first movie,
Alien 5. This time we used every trick
we've learned in six years making toy movies and produced our
most action packed and cinematic action-figure-adventure yet.
ALIEN
5² was written by Sebastian O'Brien
based on a story idea he and i wrote together. Probot newcomer
Flora Whitfield stars as the voice of Ripley. Sebastian reprises
his role as the voice of Bishop and several other characters.
Our biggest supporting cast ever includes many Probot All-Stars
and a few new voices too.
We
decided to make a sequel to ALIEN
5 in April 2003, because i had a new 3CCD
digital camera [SONY TRV-900] and digital editing software [ADOBE
PREMIERE 6.0]. We knew we could make a much better Alien movie
than we made in 1998 with just a vhs camcorder and a 4-track
audio recorder. Plus, the Hasbro and Mcfarlane figures are so
cool that they deserved a better movie.
As
always, most of our effects were done in-camera and as cheaply
as possible. However we did enhance several sequences digitally
using various methods i'll get into later...
