Starting with a real photo of Downtown LA, a futuristic skyline was developed in Photoshop mostly by sampling sections of the existing photo and distorting them to make new buildings.

Part 3 - Digital Effects

Several scenes were enhanced with cgi effects of various types. Sometimes a digital beackground was needed. For example, Outer Space environments were created in Photoshop featuring real Hubble telescope starfields
(thanks NASA!!)

Other sequences were exported and touched up frame-by-frame as needed.

Our gunfire effects were drawn on in Photoshop. This was most effective when accented by our in-camera strobe-light gun effect.

The Predator invisibility effect was like reverse rotoscoping. I filmed the predator jumping down and kicking the robot, then removed it frame-by-frame, taking samples from a still plate. The samples were distorted a bit to make the effect more pronounced. This was extremely time consuming, but certainly worth it to create an approximation of Hollywood digital effects.
