MAKING
STAR WARS

ACTION FIGURE THEATER

Our most elaborate set was built for the Death Star Hangar shootout. This was made using a mix of several techniques. The walls were designed digitally using both stills from the film and scans of old and new Kenner/Hasbro beckdrops. The designs were each printed, attached to foamboard and assembled in the studio. We covered the black paperboard floor with clear packaging tape to simulate the polished floors of the Death Star. Small tracks in the floor allowed us to puppeteer several of the action figures from underneath.

The result was a very realistic recreation of the hangar bay, complete with an extra room for the Vader/ObiWan lightsaber battle, a functional blast-door, enough room for the Millenium Falcon, and a big hole in the floor for the stoormtroopers to fall through to their deaths.
