TYPES OF METAL FABRICATION PROCESSES

1. Casting – is a process in which molten metal is poured in a molder. 3. Drawing – is a process in which force is used in order to pull metal into and through a tapered die. The die then stretches the metal into a thinner shape. Drawing is usually performed at room temperature which is referred to as cold drawing. But in order to reduce the required force, the metal workpiece is heated.

4. Folding – is a process of metal fabrication in which the metal was bent through a hammer until it bends to the desired shape that we want. In addition, we could also use a folding machine, called a folder. Through using this machine, the sheet metal was placed to a flat surface and the clamping bar then holds the piece of machine in place. 5. Forging – is a metal fabrication process that uses force in order to shape the metal piece. During this process, a hammer then strikes the metal until the proposed shape is formed. There were three (3) types of forging process. These are the cold forging, warm forging, and hot forging. Cold forging is done when the metal is at a low temperature. Warm forging is performed with the metal heated from high temperature to below temperature recrystallization. Hot forging is when the metal is heated to a high temperature or if it reaches to recrystallization.

6. Machining – is a process of shaping metals by removing unwanted materials from it. This process can be performed in many different ways such as drilling, turning, and milling.

7. Punching – is a process in which turrets that are uniquely shaped on a pressing punch that hits the metal into a molder or through it in order to create holes in it. The final product can be a piece of metal with holes for the purpose of fastening, or maybe removed, and shaping the metal parts which is usually called the blanking.

8. Welding – is a type of fabrication process in which two or more pieces of metals are combined together using heat and pressure.
