XMAS EVE FIRE IN HOLLYWOOD

I want to be serious for a moment and take time to pay tribute to the people who are working hard today to make sure all of the rest of us have a safe Holiday. I'm talking about the Police, Firefighters, EMTs, and of course our soldiers serving away from home this Holiday.

Why the sudden sappy patriotism? Well, last night i witnessed our local public servants in action and i wanted to share what I saw...

I live in Hollywood and have a lovely view of the hills. Last night, Xmas eve, the Santa Ana winds picked up something fierce. The power went out and came back on again soon after... twice. I went to the window just in time to see a flash several blocks north, and then the lights went out again, and stayed out this time.

Soon i saw smoke rising near the hills and decided to grab my camera and check it out...

Just north of the Pantages theater on Hollywood Blvd, there was a church on fire, and the embers had spread to the nearby palms, threatening the entire neighborhood. Nearby houses were evacuated safely, and no one was hurt in the fire thanks to a quick response from the Los Angeles fire and police dept. By the time I got there the fire was already mostly extinguished, but I got some cool shots of some of the firefighters in action.

So raise your glass this Holiday to all the hard working public servants out there, and especially our men and women serving overseas this Holiday season!
THANKS FOR YOUR SACRIFICE.

(and thanks as well to the folks at the power company, who got our electricity back on in time to open presents!)
